Thanks guys, and thanks for the little advise on the shadows, I'll be sure to fix that (scratches Notic's name from Christmas list). I've never colored my work until this book, and certainly have never used photoshop before, so I am very appreciative of your advice. Thanks again -matt

I just started at Memhis College of Art. Hopefully I can figure this whole "college thing" out before it causes me to die a horrible death. A horrible confused death.

Hey Matt!
Did you know that David went to MCA too?
I heard about your car accident, are you OK? I hope so. I heard the car isn't.

Car accident? I'm sorry, my memory is a little fuzzy ever since I got this strange head-injury... Car accident? I'm sorry, my memory is a little fuzzy ever since I got this strange head-injury... Yeah, I know about Dave's misadventure with said school, from what I have seen so far it has been pretty good. I know about MCA's history of liberal teachings, and I would just like to remind everyone how close-minded, and dense I truly am. Did you know I had a car accident?

Yeah, I hear about Shane alot at school, they're proud of him down there. MCA has one of his cartoons posted on the wall, the Commercial Appeal really lucked out when they got him. I'm going for illustration, Notic, and thanks, I can use all the help I can get.

Kevin and I passed Shane and his girlfriend up on Walnut Grove the other night and about scared the crap outta them when we yelled out the window to say hey. ;D
Wish he'd make it back out to the meetings more. Miss seeing him and his toons there. His senior project at MCA was fantastic.

I officially hate my 3d design class. "But why?" you ask? I have voiced my opinion on the subject of contemporary abstract art as being stupid and have called artist of that particular genre hippies and draft dodgers, (I am speaking in generalities and statements such as these are used merely to express my own particullar ignorance.). That being said, I have given my best efforts to appear open minded and have tricked my hippie teacher into thinking I have a willingness to learn. This has proven to be my downfall. Disregarding my venomous dislike for the abstract, I sat through a four-hour lecture on expressing myself through art and "discovering my artistic self". When the lecture was over the teacher introduced me to my arch-nemisis (the one thats not math), Art from the readymade. Let me take a moment to describe this villian for those whom aren't familiar with it. Readymade is a term which describes something that is common in society, or manufactured such as lamps, shoes, microwave ovens, bacon, ect.. When an artist makes a readymade piece, he takes the object and manipulates it to form art. In short, a man takes a bicycle wheel, glues it to the wall, paints it blue, and gives it a name. R-e-t-a-r-d-e-d Now I have to make a readymade piece and present it to the class as a form of art. I'm thinking I'm gonna take a whisky bottle and put it into a boxing glove. I might even paint it green. I'll call it "Ireland".

I always try to keep an open mind to art, but I admit even I have my limits. Try to think of the objects you use in this assignment as a medium like a pencil or charcoal instead of "lamp" or "Bacon". The difference is only in what you can do with that medium. You could take a hammer and shatter a mirror or some lamps, then use the shards to create a mosaic or something like that. Obviously I don't know the details of your assignment but as long as the art is derivative of the readymade object you should be good to go, right? This definitely wouldn't be my favorite assignment, but if you can find a way to put your own spin on it, You might be able to keep your sanity. Your Ireland abbreviation sounds like an interesting start lol. Have fun.

I'll try to be strong, brother Notic. I guess I could settle for secretly making fun of his sense of artistic freedom when he's not listening. Y'know, I might go with the boxing glove thing after all...
