Ok, I've got two down, and a few more to go. First up is Clark/Kal-El flying. I finished it, then thought he could use a few more highlights. I pulled the white bottle out from my airbrush and "SPLAT!!!"- white paint shot up the left side of the canvas! D'oh! Luckily it didn't get on the portrait part- just the grey/sky area. After a few choice cuss words, a damp rag, and another few minutes fixing the sky and my signature (I switched it to grey since that color was flowing better, and it looked a bit better) I said this one was done. There's also the Kal-El/symbol painting. I finished the grey tones on it. After debating if I should leave it black and white or to go ahead and add color I took a deep breath and started in with the blue. He quickly began looking like a smurf! I added some red. Then some more white to shape up the symbol. Some orange. Some yellow- and a bit more blue above him. In that episode he's in a phone booth outside the Atlantis night club and there is a lot of blue neon. And finally I was done! No accidental splatter-painting this time! If there had been I would have looked like this- Here are a few sneak peaks at the next ones I'll be working on. The model is Scott Cranford- the official Superman of Metropolis. Close up- City Hall. Phone booth. The Superman costume Scott wore was designed by Steve Stanley. Steve, Kevin, and I got to go around Metropolis last year and take some cool reference shots of Scott the last day we were there. It was a blast! Kevin got started on a cool colored pencil piece last night. I'll post pis of it as he gets it done. Well, gotta run. These things aren't painting themselves..! Lin

No prob. I got the fittings I needed to hook up the new moisture trap on my compressor so I should have fewer problems.
More pics tomorrow! I'm going to take some shots of the one Kevin is working on. He's going to take it to Adam's tonight to work on.

Well, you won't have to wait long- 'cause here they are! Kevin and his project- SuperMule My close up of Scott Cranford as Superman. First I use some brown and purple to sketch things out and figure out the shadows. Then I start adding yellow and red. Then some blue and some white for highlights. Should have this one wrapped up tonight and will start on the phone booth shot next. Well, I'm off to the Art Center for more red, yellow, and blue paint!

Plans have changed. I'm going to a Tom Tyler as Captain Marvel as opposed to a "classic" Captain Marvel. Seems like everybody is doing all photo realistic art and I don't want to be left out. Or worse yet- have people think I can't do photo realistic art. Here is the final "classic" Superman. It will be 18" by 24": And here's the final Batman and Robin. It's also 18" by 24". There are progress shots of both of these on the Gallery page: bushitales.com/supergallery/I'll post the other pieces as I work on them. Let me know what you think of 'em.

Those look great! I had a Batman coloring book I loved as a kid that had similar cover art. I wish I still had it! Don't worry about folks not thinking you can't do realistic stuff- I'm really digging your cartoon style. Next time I see you I want a marker sketch of Batman and Robin like the one you did on FCBD. That thing rocked! I really liked it because it was very classic BM&R, but I could also see some Dave in it. I really would love to see you do a series of headshots like that of the old classic guys. A Captain Marvel/Billy Batson one would be kick butt! I'd love to see an Hour Man, Dr. Fate, The Spectre, (AS)Green Lantern, Green Arrow, Black Canary, Wonder Woman, Hawkman & Hawkgirl, and of course a Superman and/or Clark Kent headshot. Maybe for next year. You and Micah could tag-team them. I really think folks at the celebration would dig it. Well, here's Kev's finished Super-Mule drawing. He's been inspired tore-do his Mona Missy drawing and do it bigger like this one- and on better paper than his original. I'm almost done with my Scott Cranford phone booth painting. Here's a few more shots. First I got the back ground finished. Then started doing some more body work- Just have his face to finish before I can call it quits on this one and get on to my next one of Scott. I hopefully can finish that one on Friday night (have to take a few days off from painting to work on the next BT page!) and then get onto either a Brandon or George painting. Maybe both! I found a great 'Superman Returns' movie book at Bookstar this weekend and it's got some great shots!

Everyone and myself included really think the classics you are doing are terrific!!!!!!! People really enjoy them!! That's why you got such a great response to the marker drawing you did at Anizona. People who grew up on this style love to see these. Even the ones who didn't love these. Don't feel left out, having different styles of pictures helps the art show to have a variety, which is a good thing. We all love them, don't stop.

OK, done with the 'Superman Phone Home' painting, and started another. First here's the phone booth one of Scott. Started with some red brown on the face. Then used some purple, white, black, gray, and blue to finish it up. Added a bit longer and hair, and brought the curl down. The wind had blown Scott's hair up some. Here is is finished. It's 2 feet by 4 feet. Here is the next one. It's of Scott standing out in front of Metropolis City Hall. I loved the big columns, and took this shot of him while he was standing at the top of the stairs, and I was a few down. Steve and I would swap sides after a few shots. I've got to work on the next BT page this week, so I'll have to finish up this one on Friday/Saturday. Still debating on which other I need to do, and which ones to start and finish up at Metropolis...
