I'm documenting the steps that I'm going through to produce a 2 foot by 3 foot painting of Akiyo. This is one of two paintings I'm doing for AniZona 2. The other is a painting of the Guyver. One of my personal favorite anime series. Lin is working on a painting of the Mach 5 from Speed Racer which I can't wait to see. Here's the line art I'm working from for the painting: And here are two pics of me finishing the pencil sketch on the canvas: I'll upload some more progress pics tomorrow.

Well I think I'm going to call it a day. I was hoping to get more done and I think I rushed the face too much. At this rate it may not be done until Tuesday or Thursday. Oh, well... best I can do. Here's a shot from the end of day 2. And here's a detail: I'll be back at it tomorrow but I may not post anything until later in the week because of the day job. So, any comments? Suggestions?

Here's day 3... Things are slowing down as I expected. This may take a week to complete. Working without actual photo reference is hard. I've got sorta some bits and pieces that are reference but without an actual lighted shot it's hard to do this. I need to find somebody in PV who can model for the paintings. I was hoping to pull off a more rim lighted "moody" shot as opposed to just a portrait type shot but alas, it wasn't looking right so I reverted it to a portrait. Here's another progress shot. It's kinda starting to come together... And here's a detail... By the time I get to painting in hard shadows and intense highlights I might be able to pull this off. Thanks for the kind comments. I'm still on the fence with this right now...

I'm going to take a few days off of the painting. I've gotten rather frustrated. But it'll be done soon. I'm also going to do some duoshade illustrations and a Guyver painting prior to AniZona. All those will be documented here as well. Should be fun.

16 MORE DAYS UNTIL ANIZONA!!! I can't wait to see everybody including the #1 Akiyo fan. And don't forget the whole BT team will be there and some very special friends of ours from Memphis. It is gonna be more fun that a barrel of armor wearing monkeys...I didn't even think that I could imagine that kind of fun.
