Larry Ward in car accident
From: Larry Ward Sent: Wednesday, August 1, 2007 8:49 AM Subject: Yes, I'm Alive.......Sort Of
It all started one week ago today when I took a leisurely drive to the local farmers market to purchase some sweet corn and tomates. With that task successfully completed, I then headed to McDonald's, a noted staple of life to many of us today. I never made it....
I was driving my old 1983 Chevy K-10 4X4 pickup with oversized tires and a 6" lift kit. I was driving along at about 35 mph when an older lady of 78 years turned into my path with her 1999 Toyota Camry. I hit her full force broadside with the front of my truck. I was wearing a seatbelt, but was still thrown around like a rag doll, hitting my head on something very hard knocking me out. I don't know how long I was "gone" but when I awakened all I could hear were the EMTs and police asking my name. Suffice it to say that the accident was an incredibly traumatic experience; my truck was totaled and I have a head injury which will take a long time to heal. With the painkillers and that injury, putting words together in a coherent sentence has been diffiult at times, but I'm catching on to the routine again. And with an injured right shoulder, my recently revised baseball career may once again be over - to the probable relief of Iron Hands Glass and Captain (Steve) Kirk of the Smallville Meteors.
However, all in all, I'm lucky to be alive, and I welcome second chances in life. I have no anger or resentment toward the other driver who - the police said - did cause the accident - as accidents do happen. Now, if I can actually get her insurance company - State Farm - to acknowledge that I do exist, things might be a little less difficult.
I do want to sincerely thank everyone for their cards, letters and gifts, and for their wonderful heartfelt words of kindness and encouagement. I hope to see everyone again soon.
Please take care always, and always wear your seatbelts. Larry Ward
And from Larry's wife-
Hi Everybody,
Just wanted to thank you all again for all your kind remarks and prayers for Larry. He was very surprised and comforted by your many supportive words. He's a little embarassed by all the attention he has received, as he is a very quiet and private person.
Right now, he is recovering from the accident, though he does have quite a bit of pain associated with head trauma, and cuts and bruises. He is heavily medicated, so I'm keeping him comfortable with those. He swears he will be back to work in a few days. Yeah, right!!! Not on my watch. I do believe all will turn out fine, but it has been quite a scare the last 24 hours.
Again, thank you so very much for your many kindnesses and if anything changes, I will let you know.
Most Sincerely, Kathleen
If anyone wants to drop Larry a note or send a get well card, please send it to:

Saw these on one of the Metro boards and thought I'd share.
From Kevin Stewart-
I will be hosting a mini-convention of Superman Collectibles during the Superman Celebration in the building next door to the Chamber of Commerce. The event is FREE and OPEN to the public and I make no money off the convention itself - I simply put it on to buy and sell Superman Collectibles as I am a fan and collector as well as a dealer. I invite all to stop by. Hours will be 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. or perhaps open later Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. or so on Sunday. We will have about 25 tables of Superman Collectibles - comic books, action figures, statues, costumes, artwork, Smallville and Superman the Movies DVDs, trading cards, vintage Superman Celebration stuff, other movie and tv memorabilia, Megos, etc. I specialize in older, vintage Superman stuff from the 1940s through the 1970s and some 1980s stuff. Others setting up include Crash Comics, far-western Kentucky's largest comic book and toy store out of Paducah; and Perilous Games out of Carbondale, Illinois. Crash Comics will bring a nice line of Superman statues and local Sheila Moore will have a nice selection of recent Superman action figures. If you have any questions or requests, please ask. Thank you. Kevin Stewart.
From SteveK-
Okay, so last week I found out that there's pics from the Guinness event in both Starlog (in an article about Murphy Anderson) and in Smallville Magazine.
