Kevin Williams (MSCA ElPrez), Greg Cravens (The Buckets), and I went down to Gainesville, GA for the annual SEC-NCS fall meeting. We left out on Friday morning and got there around 9pm thanks to Atlanta traffic.
(Art show crowd.)
Got to hang out with a lot of cartoonists over the weekend. It was a blast, and Georgia was gorgeous. Lots of mountains and trees with leaves changing colors. We took the scenic route back on Sunday after seeing the Mark Trail exhibit at the Northeast Georgia History Center. Very cool museum.
(Me, Jack Cassidy, Greg Cravens, and Kevin Williams)
Saturday I got to talk to Paige Braddock (Jane’s World comic/Charles Schulz’ former assistant) at the college there, and got a sketch and autographs on her books.
(Jane's World #12 cover art)
Also won one of her Jane’s World covers and a Cartoon Network Space Ghost comic page in a silent auction.
(Spaaaaaaaace-Ghooooooost!)
Got to see Paige’s Jane’s World /Peanuts panel (she works for Creative Associates now, runs the Charles Schulz studio, helps manage the Peanuts licenses, and self-publishes Jane’s World- for which she got an Eisner nomination), Mike Luckovich (2-time Pulitzer Prize winning editorial cartoonist), and Wayne Vanzant’s panel (The Nam) and got a sketch from him. Greg Cravens received a volunteer award from the NCS at the business meeting that morning, along with James “Doodle” Lyle. I won a Shoe comics book as a door prize- very nice book.
(Kevin, Paige Braddock, and me.)
I made sure to hand out and leave out a lot of Bushi Tales cards while I was there!
Thursday before we left we hat our monthly MSCA dinner meeting and my 40th birthday. Apparently I’m not to old to still get toys for my birthday.
(Jane got me an AT-AT!)
I took a bunch of pictures. I’ll be posting some more on my live journal and sending some to the SEC/NCS webmaster.
