Hey gang, Going to share some progression shots of some of the paintings I'm working on for my October 23rd art show at Adam Shaw's studio. First up- Lon Chaney in "London After Midnight". Projecting the image and cropping it to the canvas. I usually use a soft lead or just a #2 pencil to sketch off some guidelines. After it's cropped and some guidelines are drawn I go in and clean up and add more detail to the drawing by hand. Pencils are finished- let's paint! I use black, white, and usually a light and dark gray for my B/W portraits. I love working big! Lin and Lon! Finished canvas. Finished promo poster. He's 4'x5' on a gallery wrapped canvas. I'm using a VL-3 and Createx paints. You can see my little compressor in some of the shots, and I use a Artograph opaque projector to crop the photos and get some guide lines on the canvas. From there it's all freehand. I've been painting most of these at work in the shop out back where we sandblast tombstones. It definitely gives me inspiration for painting stuff for a Halloween show!
