Not really a how-to thread, more of a show-n-tell one. Thought I'd start a sketch thread. I'll try and update it each day. Here's a double shot to start things off. This first one is a pencil sketch I did of Gotham Public Works' Harley Quinn while I was at the hotel room in Philly for the CGS Ep300 show. (You can see the original photo reference and me starting the sketch in the top photo.) The second sketch is a pen&ink/marker one from that pencil drawing. I lightboxed my pencil drawing while over at Antone and Janet's one Sunday for our weekly get-together-and-draw days. I then used my Prismacolor makers to color it. I really love GPW and think their costuming is top-notch! You can check them out at- www.gothampublicworks.com

Here are a few Dave and I did for the Castles this past Emerald City Con in Seattle this past year. This one I did for "Mrs. Castle"- I sent it to her after the show. And this one was obviously for "Frank Castle". They were nice enough to get my Superman For All Seasons book signed by Tim Sale for me at the con. Frank also got a great sketch from Tim Sale, too! And another cool Punisher sketch from Dave as well! Had a great time talking to them over the weekend. Nice folks. Hope the witness relocation program is going well for them! Lin

Maybe I'll do something like these when I'm at the Arizona comic con. I don't ever do sketches like that, it seems like a good skill to have developed. Those are all pretty cool looking.

Do it! It's funny- I airbrushed in a mall for years, sometimes in a window like a zoo animal and it never bothered me to paint in front of folks. I'd just throw a shirt or canvas up there and paint away. But doing sketches at cons makes me nervous and apprehensive about drawing in public. Don't know if it's the atmosphere, or that it can be kind of uncopfortable and cramped or what. Drawing on a plane or at a coffee shop- no biggie, but at a con I almost freeze up. Wierd...luckily I'm getting more comfortable with it- especially if I have reference! Here are a couple more from the CGS 300 trip- A Harley head sketch... and a Harley sketch/art card.

Another sketch done for CGS Ep300. Did this one on the plane to Philly and at the Philly airport while waiting for Dave and Micah to get in from AZ. And this was cool- I got this Bushi Tales sketch by Andrew Charipar! :thumbsup_anim:

Very cool- I dig the frog! Keep 'em coming. Here's one I did for my bud Dave Gibb up in Canada, 'eh? He's been coming to Metropolis dressed as Wolverine the past couple years. Great costume! Did this one for his son Brad. And this one for his son Michael. Michael and Dave with Zod at our Comic Art Show Reception/Open House in the Metropolis Community Center. Dave with some of the other costume contest winners. Here's Dave getting a sketch from Wolverine co-creator Len Wein!

I strive to someday have that kind of value control. I focus too much on outline still, hard to break that habit.
I loved Chucky as a kid, he was my favorite horror character until I saw Aliens.

Speaking of Aliens...see below! (well, you've already seen it Wesley!) A couple sketch cards I did this weekend. Did this one for Al/Torchsong at the Phoenix Cactuscon. Did this one on the flight from PHX to Denver. Got these con sketches at the con- "got back?" by Tess Fowler. Zorro by Matt Wagner. Batman by Whilce Portacio. Dave did these two sketches- And here's the con program cover art- Original back/white line art. Computer colored art. Banner in the lobby. Bushi Tales crew with the 2008 banner. BT crew at our table. You can see the con program on the table along with the cool sign the con staff left for us!

I'm getting close to finishing the character I showed you guys earlier. Initial Sketches and here is the 3D work. Note I'm going for a Kingdom Hearts style, which is a game with a bit of a unique look. High Quality version of this ImageNot really my 'sketch book', but it is something I have been working on. Here is another 3d project I recently completed.
